Guy Rauscher (* 1979, Tel-Aviv, Israel)
Guy’s musical education began in his youth as a pianist and later as a flautist. He then went on to study composition privately, while at the same time pursuing a B.Sc. in Computer Science and Philosophy from the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. After several years in the world of high-tech, his musical education continued in the form of a B.Mus. in Music Composition from the Buchmann-Mehta School of Music at Tel-Aviv University, where he studied with J. Bardanashvili. There, he received several scholarships and won first prize in the school’s composition competition.
As a composer, he is interested in the musically and artistically meaningful combination of music with ideas and materials from mathematics and the world of numbers. This combination has the potential to expose the natural aspect of both of these intimately related worlds. Additional interests within composition include re-evaluating and reinterpreting the music of the past, and the expression of a holistic worldview influenced by Buddhism.
