Caspar Johannes Walter, (* 1964 in Frankfurt/Main)

Studied composition with V. D. Kirchner (Wiesbaden), J. Fritsch and C. Barlow (Cologne University of Music, 1985-90).

In 1985, he co-founded the Thürmchen Verlag publishing house in Cologne. He has been awarded a number of important composition prizes and scholarships; his CD of chamber music, released by the German Music Council on the Wergo record label, was awarded the German Record Critics' Award in 1998. In particular, his interest as a performer – he is a cellist with the Thürmchen Ensemble, which he co-founded in 1991 – is in younger composers from the fields of experimental music and music theatre.

In 2002/2003, Caspar Johannes Walter was composer-in-residence and teacher of composition at the University of Birmingham, from 2006 to 2013 he was a professor of composition at the Stuttgart Academy of Music and since 2013 he has held the same position at the Basel Music Academy. Since 2014, he has been a member of the Akademie der Künste, Berlin.
